Inspired by the structures of Victorian industrial relics 'The Staiths' in the River Tyne, Staith Shelving by NOVOCASTRIAN pays homage to industrial revolution in the North East of England. Drawing inspiration from such monumental structures, the form is deconstructed to create a working module consisting of two distinct elements - the rail lines and the timber trusses. The module is further refined by a rich, graphic repetition which references the original structures. The final act is one of destruction, cutting away modules to reference the fires which have ravaged this icon.
