Moon Jar (Medium)

Akiko Hirai
Moon Jar (Medium) is a decorative ceramic piece with a volcanic glaze, hand made by Loewe Craft Prize Nominee Akiko Hirai.

Moon Jar (Medium) by Akiko Hirai, a dynamic, contemporary vessel based on a traditional Korean form. Akiko employs a combination of both British and Japanese pottery techniques to create each piece; crafted on a potter's wheel, layers of slips and glazes are then applied in abundance and finished in wood ash for a lava effect.

Dimensions: Height: 37cm, Width: 32cm

Akiko’s work is an exploration of contrast; the juxtaposition of coarse clay and translucent glaze. Her skillful manipulation of both is exposed to the alchemy of the kiln, ensuring that every piece is unique and celebrates imperfection and chance.
